that is, until this is all built and then included in @writefreely, so anyone can create and run their own hangout spot, with its own norms, governance, etc.
it's all working toward independence for creators, plus small, self-governing communities.
the idea is:
creators keep their choice of tool, ownership of their data, and independence (including using their own domain name), and
hanging out happens in one convenient hangout spot.
the big question to answer is what makes sense to centralize vs. decentralize.
people "don't want" to visit websites these days; they want a single convenient platform. cool, so that's what this service offers.
but the underlying sources of content and information -- the tools and platforms you use to *create* content can be anything you want.
thinking about how this works with the open web, I imagine your Remark.as profile could plug into other blogging and photo-sharing backends, like @pixelfed or any photo-sharing silos that offer enough open data access
in the fediverse, I'm not sure if this means creating a simple frontend, or if Remark.as implements the #ActivityPub client-to-server protocol, and acts as the client 🤔
@dav 😄 this is only the beginning
@underlap Moderation controls are up next -- we'll have a reporting system and a way for the community to set rules and take action on bad behavior.
@underlap Yep, we're just rolling this out slowly! Limiting it to our paid users for now means we can worry less about moderation at the moment (no drive-by trolls, everyone is generally good to each other), and it's a perk for them investing time and money in us, since that service is the primary way our work gets funded.
It is time. https://blog.remark.as/protohistory
